Committees at Work

Constitution Amendments Proposed for 2015

Humbercrest United Church is governed by a Church Council composed of an elected chair and standing committees who meet monthly from September to June. Meeting Minutes.

Standing Committees and Chair Holders

Building and Grounds: Mike Grayhurst

This committee oversees the day-to-day maintenance of the church.  In addition, large projects such as new sanctuary lighting, major repairs, etc. are taken on as necessary.

Care and Welcoming (Pastoral Care previously)

This committee is responsible training and support workshops, administration of visitation schedule and districts, coordinating visitation, roll, directory, new members and welcoming members.

Congregational Life: Fern Steggles

This committee is responsible for coordinating food and refreshments for weekly Tea Time, the Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, the Strawberry Social, AGM and Christmas Potluck.

Faith Formation:Erica Hiemstra

This committee is responsible for programs of faith development for all ages, church school, library, and youth groups, leadership training, and Bible study groups

Ministry and Personnel:Linda Steggles

In accordance with the guidelines provided by the United Church of Canada, confidential consultation and support for all staff members and members of the congregation; regular review of personnel practices, working conditions and remuneration and position descriptions, annual staff evaluations and goal-setting.

Nominations: Melanie Steggles

This committee is responsible for identifying roles and recommending various personnel to fill these roles.

Mission Animator: Barb Gilmour

Keeps the congregation abreast of the wide range of people, churches and other organizations who have needs or have benefited from the Mission and Service Fund.

Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee works with the Minister and Council to encourage education and dialogue on issues of social justice and environmental concern both within our congregation as well as on those issues identified as priorities within the United Church of Canada.

Planning and Priorities: Marg Garrie

The Planning and Priorities Committee provides long range planning for projects beyond the financial scope of the operating budget.  The committee discusses projects which have been submitted to them and rate them according to urgency of the proposal.

Presbytery Reps: Beverely Burke & Mary Gazel

These individuals provide representation of Humbercrest United at South West Presbytery meetings, acting as two-way liaisons bringing information from Presbytery to Council and, where appropriate, providing information to Presbytery.

Stewardship:

This committee is responsible for conducting an annual stewardship campaign which strives to increase overall givings of time, talent and money; co-ordinate fundraising events; develop a narrative budget which describes our faith story and how our resources are used to fulfill our mission.

Worship: Brian Packham

The Worship Committee is responsible for the worship services, administration of the sacraments, policies for baptisms, funerals and weddings, choir and music, pageants, concerts, devotional booklets, decorations and Sunday morning openers.
