You are welcome here!

Let me introduce myself and tell you a bit about the Sunday School program here at Humbercrest.

Many of you know me and are already familiar with what Humbercrest has to offer children on Sunday mornings and at other special events throughout our liturgical season.  I hope the following information will be helpful to all of you in some way.

I have been a member of the Humbercrest family since my children - Elizabeth, 22 and Jack, 18 – were young enough for nursery care.  Many years ago I was a Sunday school leader for 10 – 13 year-olds.  Because they were the older than the other children in our faith group, we met in the library each Sunday morning.  Our discussions revolved around Bible-centred stories and explored their relevance in today’s world.  I remember often thinking, “I hope they’re enjoying themselves as much as I am!”

You might know me as a former choir member and yes, I love to sing.  I was also a member of the Joint Needs Assessment Committee and I currently serve as vice-chair of the Faith Formation Committee and Privacy Officer.

I am very pleased to be taking on the role of co-ordinator for the Sunday School program this year.  We have a curriculum well suited to our wonderful children and I know they’ll enjoy participating in the following:

Gathering time in the west hall

Bible story, reflection on the lesson and prayer

Music and song

Activities for children who are both content to create at the table, and those who need to move around.

Our curriculum is based on Seasons of the Spirit, a Canadian publication.  Lessons in September will introduce children to stories that focus on the Planet Earth and on Humanity.  Aqua, the colour for this season, represents the blue-green colour of the planet as seen from outer space.

During the months of October and November we return to the colour green, representing a time of growing in faith. Children will explore stories about Jesus’ teachings from the gospel of Mark.

Calling volunteer co-leaders – Many of you have offered your considerable talents and time to the Sunday School program in previous years and I hope you’ll continue volunteer.  And to those who might be interested in joining us in the west hall to co-lead Sunday school now and then, please let me know and I’ll schedule your participation according to your availability. If you’d like to know more about the children’s program, contact me: through the church office.
